2014 AGM

FHYC hope you all have had a very good Christmas and an enjoyable New Year.

We are holding our 2014 AGM on Saturday 1st March in the clubhouse. The meeting will commence at 19:30, the bar will be open from 19:00. As I’m sure you all know, this is a very important event in the FHYC calendar and a full attendance by members would be appreciated.

As usual, part of the night will be devoted to the election of Flag Officers and a Committee for the forthcoming season. The nomination forms will be posted in the clubhouse over the next week or so. If anybody is interested in applying for any position or wishes to know more about the format then please reply via email or telephone me personally.

I have said many times in the 3 Degrees West magazine, that a club is only as good as it’s members’ and I sincerely hope the club goes from strength to strength. It does, however, require input from “the ranks” and a good and functional Committee. We can achieve this and would value your input, thoughts and actions.

Enjoy the 2014 sailing season, Reverie has been out on a couple of the tides this January and has enjoyed some rather good sailing. After all, that’s what it’s all about…………

Take care, see you 1st March

Racing Rules of Sailing

B+FYC have invited any of our members to attend the following talk at their club.

THE RACING RULES of SAILING

New to racing, or an old hand who would like to better understand the latest rules updates?

Come along to the Yacht Club on Tuesday 21st Jan at 7:15pm.

A rules expert from the RYA will be giving an overview of the basics and will answer any queries on the finer points of the rules. All are encouraged to contribute in what is generally a lively debate in the second half of the evening. Open to all club members, friends and other local clubs.

The bar will be open.

RYA VHF DSC Course

Could I ask for names and numbers of members/friends who wish to take the RYA VHF SRC Radio course this year. At the moment it is a 1 day course, as of 2nd January 2014 it a 2 day course with a large increase in tuition fees. The course should be able to run in December this year.
Quote:-
“Due to European Regulations (Cept) the RYA will be changing the way the course is delivered in 2014 as they have to separate the Training from the examination, this means the Classroom theory and practical course will be a 10 hour duration spread over Two days instead of a 8 hour run over 1 day at present

RYA Yachtmaster Ocean

Andy (Dobson) from Atlas is offering an  Ocean Yachtmaster course sometime in February 2014.  This is an excellent course and very interesting. It is perfect for those who have a passion for sailing and navigation. It is not just about finding position from stars and planets, it covers weather, passage planning, watch keeping and more.
Please reply if you are interested or know anyone who is interested.

Friday nights

This Friday, 6th September, will be a “curryaoke” night at the clubhouse. Come down and enjoy some good food, good chat and karaoke. Promises to be an entertaining night

Also on the following Friday, 13th September, we will have a Blues band (Angel Face) AND a rock band (Shotgun Conga). This really must be seen. This event is however weather dependent and needs the marquee up. If the weather is rather inclement, then hopefully it will be held on the following Friday. More details to follow.

1st Summer Series HW Race

Just a reminder about the 1st race of the summer series. This will take place tomorrow as there are at least 3 boats entering. The boats are Reverie, Bruin and Clouds. Please, if anybody else wishes to join us then please feel free. Jonathan, our sailing captain, will be giving a briefing in the clubhouse at 10:00 Saturday.
